Peter Freeman's talk:

The Role of Fundamental Computer Science Research in Intelligence and Security

Abstract

Technology broadly plays an increasingly important role in intelligence work and information technology is almost always involved in one way or another. As our need for analysis of information across a broad range of sources has increased significantly, our ability to generate information has greatly exceeded our ability to process it. While there are a number of immediate applications that can be made, meeting our expanded needs and expectations will require significant new and fundamental computer science research. This will not necessarily yield immediate applications, but without it, we will never be able to do what we must do in the area of intelligence and security.
