Submissions on all research areas relating to security informatics are welcome and may include system, evaluation, testbed, intelligence policy, and position papers. Research needs to demonstrate relevance to both informatics and national security. Topics include but are not limited to:
   
Intelligence-related knowledge discovery
Criminal data mining and network analysis
Web-based intelligence monitoring and analysis
Criminal and intelligence information sharing
Deception detection
Intrusion detection
Cybercrime detection and analysis
Applications of data grid and digital library technologies in intelligence data processing, preservation, sharing, and analysis
Agents and collaborative systems for intelligence sharing
Crime and intelligence visualization
Bio-terrorism tracking, alerting, and analysis
Disaster prevention, detection, and management
   
Both full papers and short papers will be accepted, and may be submitted via our electronic submission system beginning February 1, 2004. Papers must be in English with a limit of 6000 for long papers and 3000 words for short papers. The word count includes an abstract containing 70-150 words. Electronic submission through the conference Web site will be used and accepted file formats are PDF or Microsoft Word.

The symposium proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. All the authors are expected to follow strictly the LNCS proceedings format guidelines to ensure high-quality and consistent print. LNCS MS Word Templates or Latex2e Macros can be downloaded from here:

We would like to stress that the template and style files should not be manipulated and that the guidelines regarding font sizes and format should be adhered to. Please use Springer's Word template or LaTeX macro, or we will NOT be able to accept your final submission. If you are not using either Microsoft Word or LaTeX, please contact us at zeng@bpa.arizona.edu.
   

In addition to a formal paper presentation, authors of accepted papers are encouraged to discuss their findings in a separate poster/demo session. Authors of selected papers may be invited to submit an extended version of their work to one or more journals that will publish special issues on Intelligence & Security Informatics.
